I’ve been contemplating how to properly write words to describe this day. To do it justice, and to honor and recognize the strength of these two and the journey they walked to their wedding day. Never have I experienced a wedding day that danced the dance of grief and joy so beautifully. Knowing the loss that Scott family had experienced over the 6 months leading up to the wedding with the death of their father and brother, made the weight of this day so much heavier.
If you know these two, you know that they are some of the strongest individuals you’ll ever meet. Full of zest, spunk, and depth. Emotions were strongly felt as everyone walked the line of celebrating their incredible love, honoring the lives of their loved ones, and mourning the missing pieces from the day. Truly, I don’t think there was a dry eye during the ceremony as it was a declaration that they are still standing strong and have overcome so much.
I could go on and on about how this wedding has wrecked me to my core, just by having the honor of walking this season with Virginia + Kory, and documenting some of the most raw and real moments I’ve ever photographed. All I can say walking away from this wedding is Jesus is so good. And I love these two with all of my heart.
As you scroll through this post – you’ll see incredible moments, and perfectly thought out memoirs throughout the day. Here’s just a few of my favorite parts of the day :
1. Virginia was walked down the aisle by her brother, Daniel, as he wore their brother’s wedding suit in memory of him. They had a few minutes alone in the bridal suite before the ceremony that turned out to be one of the most intimate parts of the day.
2. Two of Virginia’s older brothers performed the wedding ceremony and totally killed it.
3. After couples portraits, Kory was reminiscing on the ceremony and started telling me how he had never experienced such overwhelming emotion like he did when his bride turned the corner. Truly, these images to depict the intense love and devotion these two have for each other.
4. They wrote their own vows and read them to each other in front of their closest friends and family. Man, it was powerful.
5. There were so many special details about the ceremony itself that made an impact on me, but the most powerful part was in memory of her brother and father, they placed Caleb’s firefighter helmet and her dad’s old ball cap on the first two seats.
6. The reception was so thought out and meaningful, as Kory danced with his mom while the whole world stood still. Then on to Virginia dancing with her brothers for the father/daughter dance to “You Should Be Here.” Truly there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Immediately after, Virginia + Kory melted into each other’s arms after the dances were finished. Basking in all of the emotions that led up to that moment.
From here on they had the party of a lifetime. Celebrating their marriage and the lives of those who weren’t with them anymore. They had the time of their lives, and even threw in some fun events like a switcharoo during the garter toss, ending with the groom getting ‘iced.’
The night was completed with the most intimate private last dance, to which I couldn’t stop crying. We just love these two so dang much, and are the MOST honored to have been their photographers, and even more so their friends.
